A group of children from the West London Academy are the first to gain a stamp for learning from the BBC in their Children's University Passport after they took part in an exciting interactive tour of BBC Television Centre. The group, all members of the West London Academy Apprentices club, saw studio one being prepared for a brand new show and then tried out the sets once used for Match of the Day and Blue Peter.

Lyn Picken, project and communications manager for BBC Outreach commented "I'm delighted that time spent learning about the BBC and what we do will now count towards the childrens' award from the Children's University."

The enterprising youngsters went on to try their hand at forecasting the weather. As if by magic, Huw Edwards appeared on screen to interrupt the evening news and go live to their very own production! Jo Chodzko, Extended Services Co-ordinator at the school explained: "The WLA Apprentice club was thrilled to have the opportunity to see behind the scenes of the BBC. The highlight of the visit was the chance to read the news, participate in a "live" quiz show and be a controller in the studio. The excitement continued on the journey home, with the children inspired to take part in further Children's University activities."

The event took place to celebrate the growing partnership between the Children's University and the BBC, as they launch the first of a number of activities where members of the Children's University can collect a stamp in their learning passport.

The children certainly felt they had had an experience with a "wow factor." Matthew enjoyed discovering the "secrets" of television and being behind the controls and Mya really enjoyed the moment when she buzzed in for the questions in the quiz. Saleem most enjoyed the weather forecasting, especially when he tried the "magic" green cloak and his body disappeared  "I can't believe that….how?"
